Planned Parenthood, the organization devoted to supporting women's health services, has filed two lawsuits against the federal government and the state of Texas in order to remain part of the updated Texas Women's Health program, according to the Associated Press.

The state of Texas is moving forward in defunding clinics and physician practices linked with Planned Parenthood and other organizations providing abortion services. Marcela "Marcy" Balquinta who utilizes the services of this nonprofit and supports the organization, also filed a suit against the Lone Star State.

"I love my job and work hard, but at the end of the day, like many women out there, I live paycheck to paycheck," Balquinta told The Dallas Morning News. "If I couldn't go to Planned Parenthood, I don't know where I'd turn. And there are tens of thousands of Texas women like me."

Without the services provided by this foundation, many low-income women would be unable to receive affordable cancer screenings or birth control. The lawsuits center on the amount of authority the state government has in removing funding to Planned Parenthood.

After removing financial aid to this organization, the state allegedly violated patients' civil rights by excluding affordable and necessary women's healthcare services.

Arizona-based not-for-profit organizations that have experienced their funding cut short by federal or state agencies should consider their legal options regarding the potential curbing of their rights. If a foundation provides a necessary service to the residents in their area and the cut in funding is unjust, they may be entitled to financial assistance.

Businesses in Arizona that experience legal disputes with local or state governments and feel that their rights are being restrained should seek the assistance of an experienced business attorney from local Phoenix law offices.
