Starting a business when you’re young

Youth is a great time to build experience that you'll be able to use later in your career. But what if you don't want to earn that experience working for someone else?
If you are of an entrepreneurial bent, you may already be thinking about starting your own business – even if you're fresh out of school and new to the working world. This isn't necessarily a bad idea. After all, as an article in Entrepreneur pointed out, younger people have fewer responsibilities and financial obligations, and are better poised to absorb risk and recover from losses.
That being said, there are plenty of risks involved with starting a business at a young age. Here are some important lessons to keep in mind:
- An experienced mentor can make a big difference. You still have a lot to learn from people who have already built successful businesses. Seek out someone you trust to guide you through some of the more difficult moments, You may even want to bring them on board as a full partner in your business.
- Be careful with social media. Young people are used to posting their whole lives on social media. But while your party photos and political opinions are relatively harmless when you're in college, they can harm your business reputation.
- Learn from every failure. You'll have plenty. The good news is that you have more time to absorb the lessons and move forward.
