In 2009, an airplane crash outside of Buffalo, New York led to wrongful death lawsuits by the families of the victims of Continental Flight 3407. Today, all but 13 of these cases have been settled, according to the Associated Press.
The lawyers of the plaintiffs gave a written update to a judge in the U.S. District Court in Buffalo. While 29 clients have been able to settle claims, 13 cases are still attempting to mediate between the two parties.
The airplane crash hit a home in Clarence, New York, which caused the death of 49 passengers and the house's resident. A number of businesses have been sued due to this accident including Continental, Colgan and Pinnacle Airlines.
Almanac News also reported on the settlement of an East Palo Alto airplane collision. Three people were killed in this accident, including the pilot and Tesla Motors employees. When the airplane hit high-voltage power lines, it was propelled into several houses.
"On Aug. 17, 2010, the Ingrams sued Bourn's estate and his Santa Clara company, Air Unique," the source stated, mentioning the plaintiffs in this case. "The court combined their suit with the Hudletons' and that of Finn's wife, Sherina Yuk Chan. The three lawsuits alleged negligence on Bourn's part for willingly taking off in unsafe conditions and because he did not follow his flight plan."
Businesses need to be ready for any type of lawsuits, including those of wrongful death and injury. While those who have been injured on a plane have the right to file a case against the company, businesses can still work with victims in arbitration and mediation proceedings to ensure that all parties are satisfied with the financial outcomes. Arizona companies involved in wrongful death suits are advised to contact business law attorneys in Phoenix.
