The DuPont Corporation – a provider of solutions for a variety of different industries including communications, agriculture, science and engineering – is facing a wrongful death lawsuit and two personal injury claims, according to the Associated Press.
The plaintiffs allege that they were exposed to a dangerous chemical used by one of the plants DuPont ran. Attorney Kathy Brown filed all three lawsuits in Wood County Circuit Court and told reporters that this is a separate case from the class action lawsuit that was previously filed, alleging that water supplies in Ohio and West Virginia were polluted with the chemical C8.
"This is so different that these personal injury claims were specifically separated and carved out from the class-action seven years ago," Brown told reporters. "These lawsuits are for people who have one of those reported diseases and are seeking justice. My co-counsel and I are continuing to screen cases and talk to people throughout the area about their injuries and what remedies they may have."
Virginia Morrison whose husband died from kidney cancer and related injuries is one of the plaintiffs alleging that a harmful chemical brought on the disease and the company is responsible for wrongful death.
How to avoid injury-related claims
Companies will need to ensure that all of their services, products and work processes are safe for both customers and employees. This can be done by regular check-ups and ensuring management is following all protocols. Monitoring necessary procedures outlined by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) when developing products is also imperative in ensuring the safety of consumers.
Arizona companies that need more legal guidance or representation in the courtroom regarding injury claims should consult knowledgeable attorneys at a law firm in Phoenix.
