‘Pink slime’ lawsuit shows that food manufacturers are fighting back

Today, food manufacturers have undergone plenty of discrimination when it comes to developing healthy meals. McDonalds and other fast food chains have had many people focus their grievances over their self-destructive eating behaviours onto the restaurants themselves. In times of distress, Arizona food manufacturers may want to speak with business law attorneys in Phoenix.
One food producer that has also faced alleged defamation is Beef Product Inc., which major media outlets have classified as producing "pink slime." The company is now suing ABC News in a defamation lawsuit while it is attempting to rebuild its public persona, according to the Jackson Sun.
The South Dakota-based firm will have to prove that the network knowingly published false data and meant to harm the company's public image. In particular, the lawsuit stated that ABC News attempted to claim that the ground beef produced by the company is unhealthy and unsafe for consumers.
"The lawsuit is without merit," Jeffrey Schneider, ABC News' senior vice president, said in a statement on Thursday. "We will contest it vigorously."
Beef Products is seeking approximately $1.2 billion in damages due to the alleged defamation and loss in business. The company alleged that at least 200 false statements were made about its products.
Dan Webb, an attorney representing the company, stated that the media news network accomplished this alleged defamation "with malice" and had attempted to "destroy this business," according to NPR. In particular, the news network did a nightly series on the alleged dangers of the food manufacturer's products and released a list of the restaurants and schools using its foods.
Arizona food manufacturers and restaurants that need assistance with a defamation lawsuit or other accusations are advised to consult Phoenix business law attorneys in such matters.
