Education systems such as universities and public schools need to ensure that their students are receiving the best possible teaching methods and are excelling in the necessary skills in order to staff the workforce with talented individuals in the future.
Educational institutions have both statutory and institutional procedures to follow in such cases. And, any organization may face a claim for violation of law of internal contracts. To prevent or defend such claims organizations of all types would be wise to speak with a lawyer in Phoenix.
Harvard is one educational institution that may find itself in the midst of student lawsuits in the coming months. At the end of August, more than 100 students from Harvard University were discovered as cheating on a take-home test. These young adults have since been under investigation and may face severe punishments for their indiscretion.
The Harvard Crimson reported that the 125 students who took the class "Introduction to Congress" and were found to be cheating will face punishment. In fact, many are considering suing the school because of it.
More than 10 students have already spoken to lawyers in order to protect themselves in this scandal. Many law experts predict that the lawsuits will likely accuse the school of not properly following investigation procedures listed under the student handbook.
"Particularly with 125 matters to resolve, it takes a lot of diligence to make sure that [all of the students] get what they're supposed to get," Peter Lake, a professor at Stetson University College of Law, told the news source. "It gets that much more likely that you're going to make a mistake."
Educational institutions need to ensure they follow proper procedures during student investigations. Arizona colleges and schools accused of violating such procedures – or teachers or students having such claims – may need to speak with experienced education law attorneys at Phoenix law offices.
