Many businesses may have problems with employee contributions and as well as issues regarding wages. For instance, some entertainment companies have had many contract-related disputes with talent. Business law attorneys in Phoenix can help Arizona firms handle any legal sides to employee-related disputes as well as many other issues within business law.
The producers for the broadway show "Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark" found themselves in the midst of one such dispute with a former employee, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Julie Taymor was the director of the performance and has accused the production company – 8 Legged Productions – of using her "creative contributions" after she had left the show.
Taymor – filing a lawsuit last November – claimed that she was due more compensation and, as co-owner of the musical's book, was due intellectual property rights to the show. Taymor sought damages reaching more than $1 million, according to Entertainment Weekly.
However, Michael Cohl, the owner of 8 Legged Productions, alleged that Taymor did not contribute adequately to the show. The production company unveiled a counterclaim against Taymor.
"[8 Legged] launched a full-scale attack on Taymor aimed at assassinating her character and seeking to hold her singly responsible – financially and reputationally – for the musical’s problems," Taymor's lawyers told reporters.
Despite the conflict, the two sides did come to an agreement recently and their lawyers told a New York federal judge that a settlement was reached. The exact terms of the settlement have not yet been revealed.
Any other businesses that want to resolve a dispute with former employees and either reach a settlement or avoid court altogether would be wise to speak with a business lawyer in Phoenix.
