Lawsuits against allegedly harmful dental procedures abound

All businesses need to remain on good terms with customers or they may lose out on gaining profits and a strong market base. More importantly, it is vital to ensure that products and services sold are safe and harmless for consumers and that all employees treat customers with respect. If any company in Arizona has been accused of doing otherwise, it is a good idea to consult Phoenix business attorneys.

The Small Smiles dental chain is one such business that has been accused of mistreating consumers. Allegedly, the company's dentists performed unneeded procedures and physically restrained small children in their care, according to the Times Union.

New York Judge John Cherundolo recently rejected the dental chain's request to drop the three lawsuits against it, which were filed by the law firm Powers and Santola located in upstate New York. The lawsuits were filed in April 2011 on behalf of children from Schenectady, Syracuse and Rochester.

"The defendants appear to have intended to injure the infant plaintiffs by subjecting them to harmful and unnecessary dental procedures well before they stepped through the door at a Small Smiles clinic," Cherundolo wrote in his final decision at the end of August. "This intentional misconduct was part of the alleged scheme to generate revenue as quickly as possible."

Another lawsuit filed accusing professionals for teeth-related injuries stems from Oregon, where a patient was allegedly advised to wear braces for 11 years, from the age of 7 to 18 years old. CBS News reported that the patient is suing orthodontist Dr. Brad Chvatal to fix his now-rotten teeth and for corrective oral surgery.

Businesses that find themselves in the midst of a lawsuit filed by consumers, much like the Small Smiles dental chain, would be wise to speak with Phoenix business law attorneys who have real-world experience running a company.
