Dunkin’ Donuts accused of racial discrimination

In today's society, racial discrimination is the last thing that any business wants to be accused of. Such a statement could tarnish a company's image to the point that its customer-base may vanish. To clear up any misunderstandings and ensure a lawsuit does not ensue, businesses in this situation would be wise to consult a business lawyer in Phoenix, as the Dunkin' Donuts, a major fast-food chain, may need to do.
A lawsuit filed against Dunkin' Brands is accusing the franchise of giving Caucasian restaurant owners better locations in more prosperous regions, according to the Huffington Post.
The plaintiffs include an Indian-American woman – Priti Shetty – and an African-American couple – Amy and Reggie Pretto – who claim that supervisors at the company steered them toward opening up shops in undesirable locations. Shetty alleges that the franchise forced her to keep two locations open 24 hours a day and would not allow her to open a third restaurant.
"This action involves systematic racial discrimination by Dunkin’ Donuts against its own franchisees, particularly those who are Indian women of color and African Americans," the filed lawsuit stated.
The suit goes on to say that Dunkin' Brands induced the women to "invest their life savings" in their franchises and claims that Shetty was constantly discriminated against and harassed by her operational managers.
When Amy and Reggie Pretto attempted to gain permission to open a location in the Greater New York area, they were denied and allegedly lied to about the lack of franchises available in New York or New Jersey at the time.
Arizona companies that may be implicated in a lawsuit related to discrimination may need to confer with a Phoenix business attorney.
