Companies are often held responsible if one of their products or services causes harm to its customers or clients. This is why it is important to ensure that regular safety inspections are part of the development of a business's services. However, if an unfortunate event does occur and customers are harmed, Arizona business owners may need to speak with business lawyers in Phoenix.
The Megabus company is one such business that may have allegedly endangered its customers. Three lawsuits have been filed against Megabus because of a fatal crash when a double-decker bus hit a pillar after a tire malfunctioned, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Two college students and a Chicago family filed these suits due to the damage caused by the bus crash. On August 2, the bus crashed into a concrete pillar at 55 miles per hour, which led to the injuries of 47 passengers and the death of 25-year-old Aditi Avhad, a graduate student at the University of Missouri.
CBS Chicago reported that the Megabus was on its way to St. Louis when it crashed near Litchfield, Illinois. The plaintiffs allege that the company did not ensure the bus was safe and its tires were functioning properly.
One of the plaintiffs, DePaul University student Jamie Schultz, allegedly suffered severe emotional distress when the woman sitting in front of her was killed during the crash. Columbia College student Lewis Vaughn IV is another plaintiff who was left with two broken legs, a crushed ankle and heel and fractures to his arm and pelvis after the bus crash. The son of the Chicago family suing the company was left with a broken shoulder, wrist and leg.
An Arizona company that has been accused of causing harm to its customers will need corporation liability protection, also known as "asset protection," which is a service offered by a number of business law attorneys in Phoenix.
