Businesses, much like hospitals, must ensure that the services or products they provide do not harm their customers. However, if a consumer does find a problem with a particular commodity, a business owner in Arizona can obtain the help of a Phoenix business law attorney. Much like what Ohio-based podiatrist, Dr. Leonard Janis, had to do after being accused of medical malpractice, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
Darla Morris, a nursing assistant, is one plaintiff who broke her ankle in 2005 and went through a number of surgeries by Janis to fix her foot. However, all of these surgeries failed and half of Morris's left leg had to be amputated. In 2007, Beth Mullens also underwent eight failed surgeries and, by 2010, had to have her leg amputated.
In fact, out of all eight plaintiffs filing medical malpractice against Janis, four have had ankle surgery complications that led to amputations. Another suit claims wrongful death against the podiatrist. Five of the lawsuits are also filed against the medical facilities where Janis worked – Grant Medical Center and OhioHealth. The foot doctor has since resigned from these hospitals.
"OhioHealth has rigorous standards in place for credentialing of physicians at all our facilities," Mark Hopkins, a spokesman for the hospitals, told the news source. "We are confident that we have done nothing wrong as it pertains to these lawsuits and plan to defend our process against these allegations."
Along with these statements, Robin Yocum, a spokesperson for the doctor, alleges that Janis performs high-risk operations such as ankle replacements and "delivers quality care."
Arizona business owners that have been accused of putting their customers in harm's way, much like Janis, may want to speak with a Phoenix business lawyer to protect their company image.
