Business owners need to guarantee that their products do not harm consumers. To that end, any Arizona companies sued for selling a harmful product may want to confer with a Phoenix business attorney.
Hospitals and medical facilities also have a duty to protect and improve the health of their patients. However, it is a well-known fact that a hospital is a place where one could most likely get an infection, which is why many medical practices follow strict regulations to assure the safety of their patients.
Allegedly, Exeter hospital, based in New Hampshire, did not protect its consumers as nearly 60 patients undergoing treatment in its cardiac catheterization lab contracted hepatitis C, according to science and health website RedOrbit.
At the beginning of July, 47 people have filed a class-action lawsuit against Exeter while 12 others filed individual lawsuits. The hospital alleges that the spread of hepatitis C – first reported in May – was caused by a healthcare employee misusing prescription drugs for nonmedical functions, a method termed drug diversion. State officials are currently investigating the hospital to see if the employee caused the infection to spread.
At this point, Exeter confirmed that only 27 people contracted the disease, regardless of the others that have filed suit. The New Hampshire Attorney General is currently investigating the hospital to determine whether any criminal actions were taken at the facility.
"Exeter Hospital remains focused on supporting all of our patients and their families who required testing during this difficult time and has now completed the blood draws or scheduled appointments for over 1,000 of the identified patients who had an invasive procedure at the Cardiac Catheterization Unit and its dedicated recovery area between October 1, 2010 and May 25, 2012," a spokesperson for the hospital said in a statement.
Any Arizona businesses that are in a similar situation to Exeter hospital may want to seek the help of a business lawyer in Phoenix.
