One major agency that is stereotyped as having long lines, incompetent customer service and an overall stifling atmosphere is the Department of Motor Vehicles. And, apparently, the actor Ashton Kutcher is fed up with the DMV.
Kutcher and his production company are suing the California Department of Motor Vehicles and seeking a minimum of $1.44 million. This particular DMV allegedly backed out of a deal about a reality television show featuring the daily drama and comedy prevalent at their office.
The production firm, Katalyst Productions and Soda and Pop, filed suit on Tuesday, June 19 in the Los Angeles Superior Court. The allegations claim that the DMV agreed to a documentary show that was meant to "capture the variously humorous, emotional, dramatic, moving, humanizing and entertaining situations that arise on a daily basis at DMV's more than 170 offices across the state of California," according to the lawsuit.
While the agency had committed to 4 half-hour episodes, plaintiffs allege that the show had potential to run for six seasons. Also, Kutcher's production company had already made an agreement with TruTV to produce the first four episodes of the show.
However, the DMV allegedly backed out of the entire deal and, when Katalyst attempted to change the contract for their benefit, the agency was not interested.
Lawyers specializing in corporation liability protection can also take part in Kutcher's entertainment lawsuit, as contract law and other business legalities can often play a part in such litigation.
Entertainers as well as business owners seeking legal help may want to speak with attorneys at Phoenix law offices who have experience with contract and labor law as well as intellectual property.
