Arizona governor passes law prohibiting tax funding for Planned Parenthood

One particular charitable foundation has been the center of controversy ever since it came into being. While pro-choice advocates have always supported Planned Parenthood, citizens in favor of the pro-life movement have been attempting to thwart the abortion programs offered at this organization for decades. Other organizations in the midst of controversy may need to seek legal advice for small businesses.

On May 4, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed a bill into law that would impact Planned Parenthood's funding in the state of Arizona, according to Reuters. This law will prevent taxpayers from funding the abortions provided at this foundation. While this may temporarily affect the organization, it is likely Planned Parenthood will file a lawsuit against the state of Arizona, which has been done in other states. For example, in Texas, a federal court sided with the organization and stopped a funding ban, according to The New American.

The Whole Woman's Health Funding Priority Act will hurt Planned Parenthood as well as other organizations that provide abortions, as this Act prohibits the use of public money for any life-aborting facility.

This Act will cut funding for family planning and other women's health services by Planned Parenthood and similar organizations offering abortions. While there are six other states that have similar laws enacted, three of these states face lawsuits from these organizations.

"We are most concerned about the women and men who could be forced to go without healthcare as a result of this bill," Bryan Howard, Planned Parenthood Arizona's president and CEO, told Reuters.

Other Arizona companies or organizations facing controversy and disputes should consider speaking to a small business lawyer in Phoenix.
