At times, companies may have issues with employees, in which a worker may show up late, miss work days or perform poorly. In these situations, companies may have to let go of this employee. If the worker takes offense and files a complaint or even a lawsuit, a Phoenix small business attorney could come in handy when attempting to fight such a suit.
This type of situation happened to Current TV, a television network founded by Al Gore and businessman Joel Hyatt in 2005. Keith Olbermann, a television personality, filed a lawsuit against the company after losing his job.
On April 5, Olbermann accused Current TV of breach of contract, unfair dealing and arraignment. In a similar fashion, in early April, Current TV filed a countersuit against Keith Olbermann, alleging that he breached his contract and did not perform his duties as agreed upon, according to CNN.
"In particular, Current seeks a determination that it is no longer obligated to pay a dime to Mr. Olbermann who, having already been paid handsomely for showing up sporadically and utterly failing to keep his end of the bargain, now seeks to be paid tens of millions more for not working at all," Current TV's cross-complaint states.
The company accuses Olbermann of missing work for 19 of 41 days in the months of January and February, of disclosing the financial terms of his contract, repudiating to take part in the caucus and primary election coverage specials and refusing to support the television network.
In Arizona, small businesses may experience similar problems with their employees. A business law attorney in Phoenix could prove to be a valuable expert when it comes to fighting this type of lawsuit.
