3 simple steps to starting a business

The fluctuating economy has pushed many people to find innovative solutions to the decrease of jobs on the market. According to Business Insider's Infographic, The State of U.S. Small Businesses, there are over 28 million small business in the United States, accounting for over 22 million self-employed individuals.

If you want to become one of this quickly-growing number here are a few steps to take:

Write down your ideas: There is a concept often related to scientific discoveries and inventions that suggests that most discoveries are made simultaneously by two or more creators. This is called "multiple discovery" and it's a good hypothesis to apply to business ideas. There really is no such thing as an original idea. Someone probably thought of making a Snapchat-esque application at the same time as Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown were developing their app. The difference? Spiegel, Murphy and Brown actually worked on their idea. Next time you think, "Hey, that would make a great business," or "You know someone should really work on helping people with that," stop and write your idea down. No business owner gets anywhere by brushing off their aha moments.

Plan: Don't stop at writing. Starting planning. Name your business, create your logo and think about your brand. Find out the best audience for your idea. Register domain names and start a blog. When you think you're ready, register your company with the local secretary of state office. This involves paying a fee, deciding on an entity type and giving an official name.

Get advice: A small business advice center, mentor and business attorney are all excellent resources for new company owners looking to get off their feet. Asking for expert advice can open the doors to greater opportunities for your organization.
